We use a ROTHENBERGER ROFROST TURBO II R290 electric freezing system to isolate a section of pipework so we can swap stop taps, valves and fittings without draining the heating system or the hot water cylinder. Faster, cleaner and less disruptive than a full drain-down.

We use a ROTHENBERGER ROFROST TURBO II R290 electric freezing system — professional kit with eco-friendly R290 refrigerant, not aerosol freeze spray — so the ice plug is controlled, repeatable and safe on 15mm to 54mm pipe.
Freeze tongs clamped on
The red ROTHENBERGER ROFROST TURBO II R290 sits beside the cupboard and its two flexible hoses run to freeze tongs clamped either side of the fitting.
Ice plug formed
Using eco-friendly R290 refrigerant the tong chills the pipe until a solid ice plug forms inside — usually 10 to 20 minutes — with the system still full. The built-in dial thermometer shows exactly when we're there.
Old stop tap removed
The failed stop tap or valve comes off dry — no draining down, no flooded cupboard, no lost water supply.
New valve fitted and tested
New lever stop tap fitted, the freeze thaws naturally, then we pressure and leak test before packing the kit away.
